Small Potatoes

1.  After receiving zero response to my un-recipe for corn, tomato, and pepper salad last week, I was a littler nervous.  Did I shut out my readers by forgoing the specific recipe measurements and encouraging them to be creative?  Then I came across this similarly free-spirited un-recipe for fruit crisp/crumble/cobbler.  If someone else is doing it, it must be okay, right?

2.  I challenge you to watch the video below, except mute the sound on the video and instead play "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk.  Way more fun, plus it'll remind you of that time you were at your cousin's wedding and Aunt Edith was gettin' down and funky on the dance floor.

3.  I went out to dinner with the Sous Chef the other night.  It was pretty casual, so I didn't think too hard about what I was going to wear.  It was only later, when we were walking around the perimeter of Merriweather Post Pavilion, where The Lumineers were playing, and were therefore surrounded by the bands' hybrid preppy-hippie followers, that I realized I was dressed like an eight-year-old.  While most of the women around me were in their early twenties, wearing flowy, boho earth tones, there I was, at least ten years older than them, wearing bright pink capris, a pastel purple top, and bright white tennis shoes.  I looked like Punky Brewster's style-challenged cousin.  Oy.

4.  My friend Morgan (from Strudel and Streusel fame) came to visit!  She was in town for a work-related conference, so of course we got together to stuff face.  We ventured to Jose Andres' restaurant,Zaytinya, a Mediterranean tapas place.  There was puffy bread.  And lamb on a spit.  And pomegranate-olive oil dipping sauce.  And rose ice cream.  And happiness.

5.  Did I mention this all happened on a Tuesday night?  If you know me at all, you know how out of the norm that is for me.  But it was amazing.  Funny how a simple divergence from our old routines can reinvigorate us so much, isn't it?

Eat well.
