Deets: Pig Roast at White Oak Tavern Sunday

I'm really into inspirational quotes/lists. I recently found one about 19 hard things you have to do to be successful. I posted it on my desk at work and on our refrigerator at home.

I find that #2 on the list - you have to get up earlier than you want to get up - is perhaps the toughest one for me, but also the truest. If I get up early (like I did today), something magical happens: I get more done. I simply have more hours to do the things I love (like this).

"Early" doesn't properly sum up the hour that the chef at White Oak Tavern will be rising on Sunday morning. My guess is that he won't even bother to go to bed the night before.

The reason: he needs to start doing this. At 3 a.m.

White Oak is hosting their annual Memorial Day Pig Roast on Sunday. Tickets are still available ($25 pre-event, $35 day of), and it includes all-you-can-eat pig (of course), housemade sides like cole slaw, mac n' cheese, and potato salad, and potato rolls from Atwaters Bakery - they're the ones that make the decadently buttery brioche bun that encases and enhances the amazing White Oak burger. Chef is preparing three different barbecue sauces - one spicy, one sweet, and one Carolina-style vinegar mustard sauce.

In addition to the food, there will be drink specials like $3 Saranac and Bold Rock cider drafts, $5 fireball and bomb shooters, live music, and games like cornhole, beer pong, KanJam, and ladder ball. On a side note, I'd never even heard of KanJam or ladder ball until last night - I'm excited to try them out!

It'll be a great time - food, fizz, and fun. And pig. Lots and lots of locally-sourced, naturally-raised pig.

'Cause that's how White Oak rolls.

The fun starts at noon on Sunday
; they're hoping to serve the roast pig at about 1:30, and the party doesn't stop till White Oak closes at midnight. Stop in and get your tickets before it's too late!

Eat well.

P.S. Have I mentioned that I have yet to resolve my "to meat or not to meat" existential crisis?
