PiYo Day 33: Rest (and a Thin Mint Shake)

After all the thinking and overthinking (you know, after I pledged to not overthink this week), I couldn't have been more ready for this Rest day.

I still woke up early, intending to go for a walk. But I didn't feel very well, and as an example of the worst timing in the history of the universe, my iPod was dead.

Instead of walking, I sat on the couch, in my workout gear, and I played on my computer. Twenty minutes later, as I was browsing through a very important before-and-after slideshow of celebrities who had significant dental work, I suddenly slammed my laptop shut.

This is a Rest day, not a Waste day.

I decided to spend the rest of my time before work doing something more substantial than judging famous people's teeth. I flipped my laptop back open and took care of a few loose ends that had been weighing down my to-do list for quite some time.

Before I knew it, it was time for work. I did end up getting a walk in, at midday - I walked the half mile to the grocery store to buy a cucumber, pre-cooked chicken, and some Thai peanut sauce for a hearty Asian lunch salad. It was a much better decision than the temptation I resisted from my co-workers, who chose to drive that half mile to get fried chicken from the place next to the grocery store.

I don't say this as judgment on their decision; everyone should do what they want. I am just very glad that I stuck to my guns and did a few things that moved me in a healthier direction. I could have just as easily hopped into that car and munched on some fried chicken (Sous Chef and I are learning about British foodisms in preparation for a trip to London later this year, and we've decided that if the British don't already call fried chicken "crispy cluckies", they should).

So here's to having a restful mind on Rest day.

Today's shake was inspired by the fact that I didn't have anything in the house to fancify my shake except peanut butter and almond butter, and I'm pretty sure I've already used those on other Shake Fridays during this PiYo challenge. So off to the extracts we go...

*****

Thin Mint Shake

1 scoop vegan chocolate Shakeology
¼ tsp peppermint extract
1-2 wheatgrass ice cubes
1 cup unsweetened almond milk

Blend everything and enjoy drinking what tastes like melted Thin Mint ice cream. You're welcome.

Rest well, everyone!
