PiYo Day 42: Sweat

The beauty of PiYo: you can do it for weeks and weeks, and still kick your own butt just by trying a tiny bit harder.

I definitely pushed myself today; I am keeping my fingers crossed that my back stays in line. I felt pretty darn good throughout the workout today, though I did get really tired at about twenty minutes in.

At first, I chastised myself. Um, it's only been twenty minutes, lazy bones. You should not be this tired. But then I remembered that I didn't do the chair modification (except for the three-point balance), and I stood up and squatted in between each PiYo pushup series (I usually stay on my knees to give my back a break).

Oh. And I'm amazing. I almost forgot that.

I've stopped using my yoga mat during the workouts, even though it infuriates my inner thirteen-year-old who just wants to fit in with the cool kids on TV by having the exact same equipment and exact same clothes and exact same physique. I found that trying to stay centered on my mat was too distracting when transitioning through movements. I just want to focus on what my body's doing, not whether it's perfectly positioned on a thin piece of foam.

Sometimes my palms develop little beards as a result of the carpet fibers sticking to my sweat, but it's well worth it to be able to focus more on my workout.

This is the first time in my life that I've felt truly free to modify a workout to make it really fit me; I'm sure it's partially due to Chalene's constant reminders to do just that. Instead of feeling like I'm a slave to whatever is shown on the screen, I'm learning to incorporate it into an all-around healthier lifestyle that fits me and all my little pigeon-toed quirks.

And that's what it's all about, isn't it?

Well, that and palm beards, apparently.
