Sightseeing in San Francisco

Hey, remember when I went to San Francisco for 51 hours?

Well, we had a few hours of free time during the first day we were there, so we decided to walk around (but not before quietly asking the front desk person, "Is this a safe area?" in classic terrified suburbanite fashion).

Walking around our little sliver of the city, we immediately picked up on the free-thinking vibe.  From the art to the architecture to the people, everyone was just doing their Thing, and didn't seem worried about what other people thought.  No censure, but no you're-creeping-me-out-with-your-soapbox-ranting, either - at least not while I was there.  And that's just perfect for a little country mouse like me.

So please join me as I take you on a photo tour of my few, precious hours in the City That Never Bleeps.

Powell Street - And before you ask, No, I am not one of those tourists who stands in the middle of the street like an idiot just to take a picture.  I was standing on a median which was probably installed because of idiotic tourists.

This one says, "I belong here."  Either that, or "I am so freakin' jet-lagged that I need to down this coffee now."  Please note that I have my back to the pigeons in the bottom right-hand corner.  City pigeons freak me out.

San Francisco - where even a fire engine parked in front of the station is a photo opportunity

I find this a bit redundant.

I don't know what's more fun to look at - the rolling street rising out of the tunnel, or the man in a business suit and pink-striped socks riding a motor scooter.

An exercise in positive visualization, as seen from the hotel restaurant.

Also seen from the hotel restaurant - this is as close as I had time to get to the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.  Maybe next time.  While staying at the above-pictured penthouse, of course.

I had a lovely time in San Francisco, though I wish I could have stayed longer.  Even if it was for no reason other than to get over my fear of City Pigeons.

Check in later this week to see how I accidentally stumbled upon the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market!

  1. Oh I just loved these pictures - the idiotic median for idiotic tourists and the redundant Post sign and the pink socks/scooter look! Isn't San Francisco the COOLEST? Wish you could've spent more time over there. Made me homesick! Next time spend more time if possible, but hey, you used your 51 hours very wisely!
