2. Her food is really good. I've made dozens of the recipes from her blog, and I've never met one I didn't want to bring home to mama. She spends hours testing and tasting her recipes, and it shows.
3. She's for real for real. In a world of Pinterest-fueled perfection, she's a refreshing personality who isn't afraid to tell us how, after a day of recipe testing, her kitchen looks like Apocalypse Chow. She talks to us about her addiction to trashy TV, her above-mentioned on again/off again relationship with veggies, and other things that remind us that we're all human, and we all have to eat.
4. Her photography is beautiful. Jessica's style is as authentic as her writing voice. Raw, creative, and passionate. Ice cream melting down the sides of a vessel in a fashion that would make Martha Stewart sprint for a sponge. Huge bites out of a cupcake. And sprinkles. Sprinkles everywhere. Because life needs more sprinkles.
5. Her flavor combinations are unique and inspiring. When I first started reading her blog, I'd never thought of putting strawberries on my tacos or lavender in my ice cream. But Jessica weaves ingredients together seamlessly and I've learned to not only trust her instincts, but to engage my own creativity in the kitchen as well. And that's kind of what it's all about.
6. Pre-ordering is a way for publishers to gauge a writer's platform. And the bigger the platform, the more likely the writer is to write another book. And Jessica's talent and passion and humor and creativity are way bigger than just one book.
I don't buy a lot of cookbooks, but I am sure as heck buying this one. It's bound to be amazing.
